The deep-rooted problems of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme can be resolved if its administrator is provided with the necessary support in resolving them, writes Phethiwe Matutu.

Considering that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) caters for more than 60% of students enrolled in post-school education and training, the scheme is undoubtedly a lifeline to a majority of students who, without state intervention, would otherwise not have access to higher education.

This is why Universities SA notes the appointment of NSFAS administrator Freeman Nomvalo, hoping that he will help the scheme speedily resolve its issues with universities.
