Monday's weather: Several warnings for damaging winds, waves and fires in multiple regions

The South African Weather Service has issued several warnings for damaging winds, waves and fires, which can be expected at the start of the week, in at least three provinces.

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging interior winds, resulting in localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes, over the southern and south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

A Yellow Level 1 warning for waves, resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea and localised disruptions of small ports, between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas.

Fire danger warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the parts of the Central and Little Karoo of the Western Cape, the central and southern parts of the Northern Cape, and the western and central parts of the Eastern Cape.

The weather in your region

Gauteng will be fine and warm.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Fine and warm conditions are expected in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, but it will be hot in the Lowveld.

The North West and the Free State can expect fine and warm temperatures.

Morning fog is forecast for the Northern Cape in places along the west coast, where it will be partly cloudy and cool, otherwise fine and warm to hot temperatures are expected.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate south-easterly from mid-morning until the evening, otherwise it will be light and variable.

The Western Cape can expect cloudy and cool to warm conditions, but it will be partly cloudy along the south during the early morning, otherwise fine and warm temperatures are forecast.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh north-easterly along the west, otherwise a strong to gale force northerly to north-westerly is expected.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

Fine and warm conditions are expected in the western half of the Eastern Cape, but it will be hot in places over the interior.

The wind along the coast will be a light south-westerly, otherwise light and variable, but a moderate north-easterly is forecast by late afternoon.

The eastern half of the province will be fine and hot, but warm in places over the interior and the north.

It will become cloudy in places along the coast in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate north-easterly at first, otherwise a south-westerly is forecast, becoming light and variable from the late afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal will be fine and warm.

The wind along the coast will be a fresh to strong north-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.
