Mark Zuckerberg celebrates turning 40 with a very special trip down memory lane

Facebook founder and Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg celebrated his 40th birthday as his wife, Priscilla Chan, treated him to a trip down memory lane and a big bash with friends and family.

The former paediatrician recreated the places where Mark's lived over the years – his childhood bedroom where he learnt to code, his Harvard dorm room where he came up with Facebook, his favourite pizza shop when he was at university, his first apartment and his office.

“Mark doesn't usually let me go big for his birthday but for his 40th I was allowed to throw a bash as long our friends and family also roasted him,” Priscilla wrote on her social media.

“We all had a blast! Let’s just say that no one suffered from a lack of material!”

The couple posted a carousel of photos yesterday showing the celebration.

Among the attendees were former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates and Mark and Priscilla's three daughters, Maxima (8), August (6) and Aurelia (1).

Mark said he was grateful for his first 40 years and that their guests had travelled from all around the world to celebrate with him.

The Meta CEO also recently marked Facebook's 20th anniversary with a commemorative video posted on social media.

“20 years ago, I launched a thing. Along the way, lots of amazing people joined and we built some more awesome things. We're still at it and the best is yet to come,” he wrote.

“As I reflect on the 21 of Mark's birthdays we have spent together, one of my favourite things about Mark is how he really, truly believes in people,” his wife said.

“He sees the potential in all of us. I have no idea what adventures are coming next, but I’m here for all of them. Here’s to many more.”

Mark's improved dress sense at his birthday party – an oversized black T-shirt accessorised with a thick gold chain – had some commentators remarking that he was "channelling his inner Eminem".

In recent months Mark has gone from geek chic to billionaire bling.

He wore a similar outfit last month at the UFC 300 event with Priscilla, and again at his announcement of Meta’s latest AI products.
