When BHP Billiton's merger proposal with Anglo American stipulated as a condition the South African miner should divest from its platinum and iron ore assets in the country, the managers of the world's largest miner were telling South Africa a truth her government leaders do not want to hear. For this bid to exclude South Africa confirms what anyone with a working brain has known for more than 20 years already. 

BHP Billiton's stance is unequivocal: We will have nothing to do with you and your country!

That is, no responsible investor should invest any serious amount of capital in South Africa while the government continues on its destructive path.
