Trade union federation the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), has slammed the decision to reject emergency funding for the South African Post Office (SAPO) as "fundamentally flawed", saying it will work with government to find a solution to bring retrenched employees back to work.
The comments follow the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration's (CCMA) Single Adjudication Committee's recent decision to reject SAPO's application for funding from the Temporary Emergency Relief Scheme (TERS).
The aim, had the application been successful, would have been to temporarily halt the retrenchments of lower-level employees as part of the bargaining unit, paying 75% of their salaries for no longer than one year.
